What is AVICV
It is with great pleasure, that we welcome you to the Antonio Vivaldi International Competition Vienna (AVICV) for 2019. The primary aim of the event is to offer a platform for various classical music activities devoted to young musicians. This allows the opportunity to gain valuable stage experiences, extending into the professional realm. Each year the team of the AVICV engages promoters and co-organises concerts for the AVICV grand prix winners. In 2019 the AVICV is pleased to announce partnerships with WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne (live broadcast by WDR3), the Niederbayerische Philharmonie as well as an recital tour throughout China. The laureates of the competition will be selected by a jury composed of professors at Austrian, Belgian, Chinese and Hong Kong universities, as well as section leaders in Austrian and German orchestras.
We look forward to a fantastic competition and wish all the participants good luck and success!

The works of Antonio Vivaldi are not only frequently performed in concert halls all over the world, they are also an integral part of instrumental music education. The great majority of pieces for violin written by Vivaldi were devoted to the Ospedale della Pieta in Venice, an orphanage and music school for girls. Here, Vivaldi taught violin, violoncello, viola d'amore and conducted the school orchestra. At the end of his life, seeking success at the Imperial Court, the composer moved to Vienna where he died and was buried in 1741.
The goal of the jury is to provide the participants with constructive advice regarding their competition performances as well as for their future musical progress.
The participants selected from the award-winners will get the opportunity to work on their repertoire in front of the audience during open master classes held by the jury members.
